Duties and Responsibilities: Supports the compression molding area with respect to tooling and fixtures, manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production efficiencies. The Molding Engineer must be a company leader in lean manufacturing initiatives, quality systems, root cause analysis, fixture and gauge development, automation, process optimization, and continual process improvement.

Required Background:
• BS in Scientific, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical, Materials or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in an engineering role in automotive or similar supplier environment manufacturing engineered composite or plastic parts.
• 3+ years of experience with compression molding of sheet molding compound or reaction injection molding or injection molding.
• Experience with APQP, PPAP,FMEA, Control Plans
• Experience in reinforced fiberglass industry and open and closed mold molding practices


Required Skills and Experience:
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Control Plans, and FMEA
• Demonstrated knowledge of molds, molding process development (charge patterns, press settings and controls)Advanced mechanical aptitude
• Proven ability to trouble-shoot molding process for defects (cracks, fractures, porosity, non-fills, blisters, bleeds, etc.)
• Advanced root cause analysis and problem solving skills to include producing the following: 5 Whys, 8Ds, A3s, RedX
• Expertise with GD&T and understanding customer drawings and specifications
• Strong understanding of TS16949 or ISO9001 quality system
• Proficiency with CAD or Solid Works

Job Description:
• Provide project leadership and drive all aspects of new model program launch
• Create and manage project schedules and action items
• Design, develop, and modify production processes, production process, products, and equipment for cost effective and efficient operations (including time studies and process flow) to ensure customer specifications are met
• Ensure effectiveness of processes for optimal manufacturability, adherence to tolerance guidelines, functionality, tool design, machine design, cell layout, safety and ergonomic concerns
• Work within cross-functional teams to develop quality documentation such as PPAP’s
• Manage development of product CAD models and CAD data exchange with suppliers / customers
• Execute required prototype and pre-launch production runs
• Coordinate engineering changes
• Assist in developing standard work, FMEA, Control Plans and Quality documents. Directly responsible for PFMEA and Work Instructions
• Work within a cross functional environment to validate an acceptable part cost structure
• Support equipment, material, and process trials to ensure best methods are being developed and used
• This position will identify process improvements using problem-solving methodology to address internal and external complaints / conduct detailed investigation identifying root cause and develop appropriate countermeasures
• Ensure compliance with Lean principles (including 5S), TS-16949 and ISO-14001 policies and procedures

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering/manufacturing experience
• Four (4) years experience in manufacturing environment
• Experience with current 3D CAD software
• Experience working in automotive quality systems
• Working knowledge of tooling design, process design and standards
• Past management experience of automotive projects
